1. Survey Party Chief
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Survey Party Chief to join our growing team. The successful candidate will lead field crews on a variety of legal, construction, and topographic survey projects while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise field surveys on a variety of projects
Conduct legal, boundary, topographic, construction, and site surveys
Operate and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, and LiDAR Systems
Interpret survey plans, legal descriptions, and engineering drawings
Ensure field data is accurate, complete, and properly documented
Coordinate daily field activities and communicate project progress with office staff and project managers
Maintain safe work practices and ensure compliance with company safety policies
Travel to project sites as required
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of experience in land surveying or geomatics
Previous experience as a Party Chief or senior field technician required
Strong knowledge of survey procedures and field practices
Proficiency with modern survey equipment and software
Ability to work independently and lead a crew effectively
Strong communication and organizational skills
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate and complete deliverables
Position Overview
The Survey Party Chief leads field survey crews and oversees the completion of legal, construction, and topographic surveys. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate field data collection, safe work practices, and efficient project execution while representing the company professionally on site.
2. CAD Drafter
Kerr & Potvin Inc. has partnered with Shade Group Inc. to offer a shared CAD Drafter position supporting both cadastral surveying and civil/drainage projects. This role provides exposure to legal surveying work as well as practical drainage and site design projects.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare cadastral survey drawings, including reference plans (R-Plans), SRPRs, boundary sketches, and supporting figures in accordance with Ontario standards
Draft topographic plans and base mapping from total station, GNSS, and drone data
Assist in the preparation of drainage and civil drawings, including grading, drainage layouts, and site servicing plans
Process and organize field data for use in CAD environments
Maintain consistent drawing standards, layers, and annotation
Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate and complete deliverables
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or a related field
Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., MicroSurvey, AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar)
Familiarity with Ontario land surveying practices and/or drainage/civil design is an asset
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
Working knowledge of coordinate systems (e.g., MTM NAD83 CSRS) is an asset
Position Overview
This role offers the opportunity to work across both surveying and engineering disciplines, with a mix of boundary-related drafting, topographic mapping, and drainage design projects. The position is based out of Almonte, Ontario, with collaboration between Kerr & Potvin Inc. and Shade Group Inc.
